Legacy Giving

Legacy Giving allows high-dollar donors to support organizations in whose work they believe. Each year, The Greenhouse Project requires an $80,000 donor match through the Charlie & Karen (Abowd) Legacy Challenge Match Fund to continue our mission of Growing, Giving & Teaching for a healthier, greener, sustainable community, a passion we have pursued since our founding in 2010.

TGP began in response to a child known to organization founder and president Karen Abowd whose family lived with unrelenting food insecurity. Her response: We need to do better. As a result, TGP, by and through invaluable material and financial community support was created and has grown a thriving and comprehensive agricultural program at Carson High School, which had been defunct since 2000. Our on-campus facility literally grows our next generation of farmers, supports the Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter, and has created the

Sustainability Hub with a Native Plant Nursery and Composting program, doing business throughout the region and providing diversified funding streams contributing to TGP's overall

long-term financial health. All produce grown on site and at Foothill Garden, located on Carson Tahoe Medical's campus, is distributed to our community's food insecure through our

partnerships with local organizations.
